CBD oil isn’t all that new to the wellness scene anymore – it’s been gracing shelves and online stores for years now, but it’s enormous range of uses and ways it can be enjoyed are only now starting to be realised by it’s many fans. And many curious newbies.
With millions of regular users worldwide, the still-growing CBD industry is a far cry from what it started out as. Humble beginnings saw us introduced to rough n ready oils and pastes. But today, you can buy just about everything infused with CBD, from coffee and bath bombs to pyjamas and toothpaste!
But here at Dermactiva, we know that bringing CBD self care into your life is about so much more than just splashing your cash on a bunch of products. We believe that CBD should be respected and revered just as the cannabis plant has been for many thousands of years, and a sense of ritual and understanding about how and when to use different CBD products – and under what circumstances – can make all the difference to your experience.
1. Morning Ritual

There’s no better way to start the day than by adding a little CBD self care into the mix! Particularly if you’re a coffee drinker. Recent research indicates that consuming coffee (admittedly, it’s 8 cups a day in one notable study) actually decreases endocannabinoids in the body – the neurotransmitters produced to activate the endocannabinoid system (ECS). CBD, on the other hand, supports the synthesis and release of endocannabinoids for a fully functioning, healthy ECS.
When you turn your morning coffee into one of your CBD rituals, whether that’s by adding oil drops, choosing CBD infused coffee, or even via topical application with your favourite CBD body lotion, you can help keep your endocannabinoid levels steady, for that morning pick-me-up without the detrimental effects.
2. Fuel Your Workout

If you love a morning run, yoga session or workout, CBD will be a welcome addition to your life. Taking a regular dose of CBD is now thought to be able to assist with building muscle, with research demonstrating that when the endocannabinoid system (ECS) is activated it produces an anti-catabolic response which prevents the body losing muscle mass.
What’s more, cannabinoids are naturally the perfect partner to exercise – as the body actually produces endocannabinoids during physical exertion to give you what you need to keep going. You might be familiar with this response as the ‘runners high’, which until recently was thought to be down to an endorphin rush.
One of the best CBD rituals is microdosing through the day. If your product of choice is oral drops, this means taking a few drops 2 or 3 times a day to keep your body supported all the time, not just in times of crisis. It’s important to be consistent when using CBD for the best results and this offers an opportunity to enjoy a little CBD ritual at regular intervals.
Although, admittedly there may be times when you just need to dose on the fly, when you can take 5 minutes out to enjoy your CBD self care – do! Find a quiet spot, close your eyes, breathe deeply and re-centre yourself. Smile as you hold the drops under your tongue for two minutes (even if you don’t feel like it, as this instantly releases dopamine and serotonin, just like CBD!), or just as you take a breather while applying your CBD topical, taking a capsule, or whatever you choose.
Taking just 5 minutes to reset periodically throughout the day can do a world of good for your wellbeing.

‘Washing the day off’ is something held in high regard in various cultures across the globe, particularly in Japan, where this cleansing ritual is called ‘Ofuro’.
